Don't Let Scammers Rush You into a Trap

Pay Now?

They've made it so easy to fix the problem. Just click the "Pay Now" button. But who gets the money? Who knows!

Beware of False Urgency

Scammers love using a sense of urgency to get their victims (innocent people like you) to let down their guard.

Who wants to have their power shut off?

No one!

Who wants the government to levy a fine for back taxes?

No one!

Who wants to default on their mortgage?

No one!

The scammers are counting on you to be so anxious to fix the problem, that you won't take the time to notice anything suspicious about the email or the site that it links to before sending in your money.

Phool School Rule

Whenever someone or (some entity) urgently asks you for money: BEWARE!

The best thing to do is to go the actual website for the entity that is contacting you, whether it be a utility company, a government agency, your bank, or anything else, and check your account status for yourself.

Do NOT believe the email without verifying it yourself.

Do NOT trust the links on the email unless you first verify that they're linking to the right URL.

You can send your money to this little guy, but he's not going to keep your power on.
